A Little Bit About Our House
Welcome to our dream home on Tully Lake! We are located in Central New York on the very eastern side of the Finger Lake Region. This is one of the most beautiful regions in Upstate New York. Tully Lake was formed by glacier action millions of years ago; we refer to our place as "On Golden Pond." It is a very peaceful and comfortable home as you will see.
The Lake House is situated on nearly an acre of land at the end of a private road; our property is actually a peninsula with the lake visible from every window in the house. The property features old-growth hardwoods and hemlocks; privacy is assured by its location. At one time, rumor has it that the property was the site of the Hobart Hotel, an "unlicensed" hotel. While we are still researching the history of the property, the photos from the nineteenth century seem to clearly point to this site as where the Hobart once stood. As an aside, Norman Rockwell spent several summers in the 1920's painting country scenes at the Evan's Farm, the old farmstead (now largely long gone) you pass through coming down to the lake house.
My parents purchased the property in June 1968; during the time they owned the property, they greatly enjoyed the old hunting and fishing cottage. In July of 1970, I built a new boat house as mental therapy prior to leaving for Viet Nam. We purchased the property in September 2001 from my Mother's estate. In February 2002, we tore down the old cottage and built the exisiting custom built home. We were really happy to incorporate several items from the old cottage in our new home. Some of the items include many of the beautiful antiques that have come from both my wife's and my families. This property has been been enjoyed by four generations of our family and we are happy to share it with all of you. Nine can be accommodated comfortably, 12 including the sofas.
